About Fayetteville North Carolina

The Market House, quintessential icon of Fayetteville North Carolina, built in 1832 on the site of the old State House, which was destroyed by fire in 1831. It was within the walls of the State House that North Carolina ratified the Constitution of the United States in 1789 and chartered the University of North Carolina. Also here North Carolina ceded her western lands to form the state of Tennessee.

The focal point of downtown Fayetteville, the Market House sits in the center of the intersection of Green, Gillespie, Person, and Hay Streets. For decades meat and produce were sold beneath its arches by local farmers, while the second floor was the town hall. Many distinguished visitors have spoken from its balconies. The Market House is one of few structures in America to use this town hall-market style scheme prevalent in England.

Fayetteville North Carolina is the home of the U.S. Army's Fort Bragg, where thousands of elite soldiers serve. Fayetteville's military history spans all of the nation's wars. Yet, Fayetteville's citizens offer gracious southern hospitality and charm.

Fayetteville was one of 10 cities in the United States in 2001 to receive the coveted "All-America City" award from the National Civic League. Fayetteville has in fact been thought of as "All American" since the early days of the 82nd infantry, todays 82nd Airborne.

Just about 2 and a half hours from the mountains to the west, and about 2 hours to the coast. Fayetteville North Carolina is just off I95 about 1 hour north of the South Carolina border.
